Same Planet, Different Treatment Animals and humans have always lived on the same planet. We breathe the same air, connect the food chains, and are the foundations for each other. For many years, the conflict on whether or not animals are as important as humans, in a fair way, has been argued. Animals activists have been attempting to better protect animals from any harm. They realize the equality that all living things deserve, and simply wish to stop all animals from the unfair aching they endure. Although some people profit from animals, animal activists should continue protecting them because they are still being harmed, used for experiments, and going extinct. There are many animal activists who do not support the use of animals for experimentation to human advantage. Millions of animals are manipulated into biomedical research for the advantage of humans annually (Peggs 624-626). People seem to be very apathetic when it comes to using animals as objects. Ivory Ella is a company established to raise awareness and profit to help save the endangered elephants being hunted and killed. This company sells clothes and other products and donates 10% of each purchase to save the elephants. So far, the organization has risen nearly half of a million dollars in order to protect the gentle giants (Ivory Ella Website). There is also a similar organization that does this with polar bears called The Polar Preserve. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an organization that is very passionate about their beliefs. These people believe “animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way” (peta.org). PETA spreads word about not leaving dogs chained up outside, products that test on animals, establish protesting, and much more to keep animals
