Arguments Against Physician Assisted Suicide

Physician Assisted Suicide “All I am asking for is a little choice in how I die.” This was said by dying patient Louise Schaefer (It’s Not,). We all know at least one person who is dying from a terminal disease. It could be a family member, a friend, a television character, or even a celebrity. We probably cannot imagine them dying or losing them forever. It would be even worse if they died in pain and suffering. They should be able to go peacefully and not a life in a hospital for the last parts of their lives. It would be more comforting to know they went peacefully. There is a way to go peacefully without pain and suffering. It is called Physician Assisted Suicide or PAS for short.

Others believe that people shouldn’t die faster than they already do. There is technology to prevent it. The pain can be lessened or stopped. People who weren’t depressed didn’t want to die. (This is very untrue. Those who search for PAS don’t want to suffer plus other reasons. Terminally ill sometimes refer to themselves as “time bombs” and have good days and bad days.) William Wood says, “IF we treat their depression and pain, we have never had a patient who wanted to die.” Some doctors believe that this search for PAS can be looked at as a cry for depression too. Some say it can lead to abuse of lethal drugs also. (This was proven untrue.) This can lead to too much power in doctors because they can pick and choose which patients stay and which patients don’t. It could ruin the trust between the doctor and patient. Patients should be able to trust their doctors and always want the best for themselves. Some doctors say that doctors should not kill their patients on purpose because that is wrong and it destroys the oath
