The Affect of light Intensity on the Behavior of Armadillium Vulgare Felekech Solomon
Introduction

Pill bug with scientific name of Armadillium Vulgare is the species of isopod in which our group was

Given to conduct our laboratory experiment .They are not insects, pill bugs have different colors

Ranging from gray to brown and have an antenna and have gills to breathe and most of the time they

Hide themselves in barks of tree under leaves to protect themselves from extra heat and light. Pill bugs

are class Crustaceans , which have exoskeleton and jointed appendages. They eat decaying plants and

animal matter . They

heat that are useful for their growth and keep cool their body. One of the mechanism they respond to

Protect themselves is to increase or decrease their surface are exposure to the heat or light. Since

animals are highly affected by temperature differences on their body , and it is scientifically known that

high surface area or volume mean high heat will be lost and small surface area or volume means less

heat will be lost from their body.

For our experiment we decide to test the change in behavior of isopods for change in light intensity and used three chamber in our laboratory with high light, no light and little light. And I questioned does
Isopods change their behavior with change in light intensity? And from the information I gathered my hypothesis was that isopods are sensitive to change in light intensity and predict that isopods either
Prefer to hide in a cool area or change their shape to reduce the surface area to volume ratio of their body to adjust themselves for the environmental situation due to light change.
