The fish was cut from belly to the jaw exposing its inner organs. The fish’s mouth was observed. The gill outside cover was opened from behind the head.

Scissors were used to cut one gill section from the fish. The gills were observed.

The gill was placed in a shallow dish of water. The gills were observed again. The difference of the gills were observed when in water the differences were noted. Inferences were made for how that the gills may help the fish in water.

Scissors were used to cut the remaining flesh off of the fish from the backbone. The flexibility of the bones and the joints in the backbone were observed.

Investigation 2:

The prawn was observed to see how hard the joints in the exoskeleton were connected.

The prawn was dismembered to reveal the heart and the brain of the prawn.

The prawns heart and brains were thoroughly observed.

Discussion:

When the gills are in the water the gills expand enabling the fish to breathe more air. When the fish's gills are out of the water it shrinks in size disabling it to breathe.
