1b. Scientists created an artificial dermal layer of skin using plastic combined with carbon nanotubes. These nanotubes conduct electricity, which comes from an external battery. To simulate communication between neurons and the nervous system, scientists used neurons that could be switched on and off using light.
1c. Scientists found that the plastic artificial skin they created was able to send signals via electrical impulses when touched.

2a. Scientists created a skin-inspired mechanoreceptor with a transmitter that converts pressure to digital signals. These mechanoreceptors were able to successfully achieve signal pulsation for each pressure level.
2b. Scientists made a mechanoreceptor system inspired by artificial skin. The system is composed of organic circuits that act like tactile receptors in skin by encoding various pressure stimuli into signals of varying intensity. The scientists exerted a pressure …show more content…
After reading both the news article and the journal article, I thought that the news article gave me a simpler, broader take on the research, while the journal article gave me more in-depth and detailed information. The news article was easier to understand because the research/experiment was explained in simpler terms and used less scientific vocabulary. The journal article was more difficult to understand because the information was more complex, and there were many scientific terms I had never heard of. After reading the journal article, I gained a deeper understanding of the mechanoreceptor used, along with some of its future applications. I also learned more about the process of making the mechanoreceptor and its use during the
