Saturday, October 3rd, a rainy and cold day, I ventured to ArtPrize with my mom. We waited in substantive traffic for what seemed like forever. I have never been to ArtPrize before because I have never been interested in art. I am not an avid artist and I even dread fulfilling the art graduation credits. Before attending, this event was just a waste of time in my opinion. Now, I realize that looking at art and creating art are completely different. I did enjoy seeing the magnificent art pieces that were created, even though I do not enjoy creating art myself. Though I have never been to Art Prize, I have been to a few art museums. Usually, these museums do not have intriguing pieces like art prize. This may have contributed to my beliefs that viewing art is boring. ArtPrize was everything except boring.
I started to think about how this cultural experience relates to books I have read in the recent past. I found that an event like this would not be allowed in a Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World for several reasons. This event is all about expression of ideas and creativity, but the citizens of the World State’s utopian society are not allowed to participate in these types of events. The citizens, I feel, would not value this event as we do because they are conditioned to savor a different culture and
