The assault rifle. One of the most famous and deadly guns available. It is portrayed in video games and movies, as heroes wield them with great dexterity against bad guys of all sorts, and saving the day.However this is often not the case in real life. The assault rifle should be banned from the homes of civilians.

Assault rifles were designed for war during WWII by the germans. They were designed for killing humans. Not hunting or sport, humans. Today the assault rifle is available for civilians. A gun designed for war and murdering available to the general public. Some may argue that they can be used in self defense against burglars and criminals. This allows for more public shootings with higher casualties due to large amounts of ammo and high fire rate. This is also what caused the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The main weapon used was The Bushmaster .223 rifle. If this gun was illegal to be obtained and owned, then this incident could have been avoided or the casualty rate would have been lower. This is the first reason for assault rifles to be banned.

Another use for guns in a peaceful way that assault rifles are not used for. One reason for owning a rifle is for hunting, a large American sport. Hunting normally uses a bow and arrow or a hunting rifle, not an assault rifle. This cancels another non human violence oriented use. Another non-violent use for guns would be shooting at clay pigeons. Sadly, the assault rifle is not used for this either. This is another example of the lack of non-violent uses for the assault rifle, which further proves that the assault rifle lacks in recreational purpose.
