Cat. 6 Keystone Jack Project ……………………………………………………… 6
1 PROJECT QUALITY PLAN PURPOSE
This plan identifies the set of standards, practices, reviews, checkpoints and other quality improvement methods to be implemented for the Cat. 6 Keystone Jack New Product Development Project. The project adheres to SM Network Cabling Inc. Quality Assurance Practices and New Product Development (NPD) process.
This plan applies to the following:
Project management and development practices.
Product Design Engineering team
Manufacturing reliance on to complete the implementation (Material Requisition and Preparation, Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) Execution, Quality Control Data Collection )
QA Team to perform quality control and audit
Necessary education and communication documentation for technology transfer from engineering to manufacturing
2 PROJECT SCOPE & OBJECTIVES
Develop a new keystone jack to add to the product line, that comply to Category 6 (Cat. 6) networking performance – customer and company requirement
Allow both punching tool and tool-free operation – customer requirement
Allow 180 degree punch operation – customer requirement
Low profile design to minimize use of material for cost and space saving – company requirement
3 Project Team ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Team Role
Responsibilities
Project Manager
Develop quality management plan
Monitor quality
Product Design Engineering
Development product that adhere to the scope, objective and identified industrial standards provided by QA Team
Provide all documentation for production readiness
Manufacturing
Identify training needs
Identify technology transfer needs
Execute trial production SOP
Execute reporting for data collection
QA Team
Identify specification for quality control
Identify industrial standard for the product

4 QUALITY METRICS
Deliverable
Acceptance Criteria
Cat. 6 performance
ANSI/TIA/EIA 568-B.2-1 Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard for Cat. 6 performance
Environmental Governance
RoHS Compliance
Design Scope
180 Degree punching operation
Low profile design to fit equipment rack for a 1U 24-port patch panel space requirement
Durability
Connection pins will survive a minimum of 750 plug/unplug duty cycle
Insulation Displacement Contact (IDC) will survive minimum of five punching action without physical damage
The product will survive a minimum of 20 install/uninstall duty cycle
Tolerance
No larger than 1% of failure rate in phase A of development cycle (first article approval) and 0.5% in production
All characteristic (physical dimensions, durability, Cat. 6 Performance) is applicable to the above tolerance specification
Cost
$40,000 for all project work up to the point for production readiness
Time
Project completion in 2 months (production-ready)
5 QUALITY MANAGEMENT METHOD
5.1 Quality Assurance
Understand the needs of customer (180 degree punching, tool and tool-free operation)
Understand the needs of company (a low profile design for cost saving and a new product to be launched within 2 months to add a new product to compliment the new Cat. 6 standard)
Prototype evaluation
Statistical process to control the failure rate to be
