Growing up Mexican food was important in my family because every time we had an upcoming family or holiday celebration it was a way everyone came together to help prepare the meal and enjoy it afterwards. Although I enjoy preparing Hispanic meals with my family I have a different outlook about eating the food afterwards now as a young adult who maintains a nutritious diet. The high carbs, sodium, and sugars quickly made me realize that I was growing in size and my clothes were getting smaller. Therefore, my role conflict is that I’m unable to enjoy the food my family and I prepare for holiday and family celebrations. As much as I want to take a bite of Mexican flan, sopapillas, capirotada it conflicts with the diet I want to maintain. My role in my Hispanic family can’t be played because my taste and appetite for Hispanic foods is rejected when I’m most expected to enjoy them.
