An estimated 44,193 suicides occur a year in the United States. So many people die each year due to depression and suffering. Many elderly people are so sick and unable to do anything, that they just want to die. So why is assisted suicide illegal? A person who is not happy with their life, no matter what age, should not have to live a life that is not happy. A person who is struggling with a disease that causes them to be sick and unhealthy should not have to live through it. Only four out of the fifty states in this country have legalized assisted suicide and that needs to change. This country should legalize assisted suicide to end the suffering to anyone sick or not happy with their life, assisted suicide may sound bad, but in reality it can help people significantly. Many people suffer from depression. Globally, 350 million people suffer from depression. With all of the depression going on all around the world, assisted suicide should be legal. If a person is not happy with their life, then they should not have to suffer. Assisted suicide is not legal in most of the United States. Assisted suicide became legal for adults in Oregon, in 1997. Suicidal people should not have to suffer through their life. Elderly people who cannot do the things that they should be able to do, have no desire to live.
