Astorino and Cuomo have two very different standpoints on this issue, Cuomo supports abortion, while Astorino does not. Astorino believes that abortion opposes all abortions except abortions related to rape, incest, and the safety of the mother, while Cuomo is in support of 9-month abortions and is in favor of the mother making the decision of abortion, adoption, or continuing with the pregnancy. Both Astorino’s and Cuomo’s reasoning behind these issues is similar to that of our nation and their opinions. Astorino opposes abortion, especially 9 month abortions because to him it is “ghastly” to end a fetus’s life because, to him and a lot of people in our nation, that fetus is a person. He openly disagrees with the federal law that allows these abortions. Cuomo supports abortion, even 9-month abortions, because he is all for the women’s choices in going through the journey of a pregnancy or not. Similar to the other half of the nation that is pro-choice, Cuomo believes that it is the woman’s body and they should decide what happens to it whether that is dealing with the physical difficulties of a pregnancy or not. The one topic both candidates agree on is allowing abortion in the extraneous cases of rape, incest, and the safety of the mother. This is a topic that is very scientific, ethical, and has been debated ever since, and even before, the case of Roe vs. Wade, so it is very hard to …show more content…
Astorino does not support the legalization of medical marijuana because of the processing of the pills. He questions the reasoning as to why it is the governor’s issue to debate since doctors can already prescribe Marinol, a pill form of marijuana, to suffering patients. He sees that if this pill already exists and is legal, there is no point to debating and legalizing marijuana. He also questions that if medical marijuana is legalized, where it would come from, how doctors could be sure of the quality of the drug, and what would we teach students in schools during drug education. Cuomo takes a more lenient position on the usage and possession of marijuana. It is currently legalized medically in New York as well as Cuomo stating that he believes the possession of small amounts of marijuana should be decriminalized. He states that this is intended to avoid the unnecessary misdemeanor charges against thousands of New Yorkers. Despite this, he also wants to make designer drugs, such as LSD and ecstasy Schedule I drugs, which would mean they would be considered on the same level as drugs such as heroin. By doing this, it would allow law enforcement to immediately and efficiently tackle any sale and use of these drugs to minimalize the deaths that these harmful drugs cause. I do not agree with Astorino in
