According to Nasa, Roger Chaffee was a brilliant engineer who always worked hard and brought his 100% percent effort to everything he did. He was an eagle scout when he was younger and then was in the navy in and after college. Chaffee later had a wife and two kids who were still young when he got accepted as one of the 13 trainees who were going to get the chance to go to space. Chaffee worked hard and was required to spend around 50 hours a week training for space. But he didn't get any missions right away. He was training for around two and a half years specifically to go into space before he got his first mission. He was chosen to be the piolet for the Gemini space craft for an Apollo mission.
