The purpose for this study was to analyze inattentional blindness to provide a better understanding for attentional capture. The participants were not defined. They were called observers in the article. The participants were given the task called the “Additional Singleton” where they do a search task that is visual. One thing in the task has something about it that makes it different from the others, called the ‘singleton,’ which is unrelated to the task and isn’t the target. The singleton is a different colored T among other T’s and L’s (Simons, 2000). Some people might notice the difference, while others experience inattentional blindness and do not see it. The results from this task show that there is a slower search performance when the singleton appears. Some people are able to filter the difference while others can’t (Simons, …show more content…
Simons is one of the two authors for the book The Invisible Gorilla, the second author for the article “Working memory and inattentional blindness,” and the only author for the second article “Attention capture and inattentional blindness.” Daniel J. Simons has extended his research for the topic inattentional blindness by publishing the first article in 2000, publishing the very popular book in 2009, and then publishing the second article in 2012. Simons did more research on inattentional blindness as time progressed. He found more information on inattentional blindness by continuing to research it and research it with other topics, like memory and attention capture. These articles prove his research on inattentional blindness and that it is a real thing that happens to many people and can be very dangerous at times. The research he did for the article in 2000 seemed to have led to his book in 2009 and then another article in
