Maybe because of his job, possibly his experiences as a parent, perhaps just born with it, never the less, Atticus has a lot of patience. He displays it constantly and seems to have it when many would not. The passage that represents his never ending patience is when Mr. Ewell confronts him. “Atticus was leaving the post office when Mr. Ewell approached him, cursed him, spat on him, and threatened to kill him. (217) In that situation, Atticus showed patience by not trying to defend his pride by fighting Mr. Ewell, but listening to him and then walking away. So strive to be like Atticus by continuously trying to be patient and thinking before reacting.

Even though he needs to prove that he is prevaricating charges against Mr. Robinson, he still questions them in a respectful manner. “Mr. Ewell,” Atticus began, “folks were doing a lot of running that night. Let's see, you say you ran to the house, you ran to the window, you ran inside, you ran for Mayella, you ran for Mr. Tate. Did you, during all this running, run for a doctor?” (175) In the passage, Atticus treats Mr. Ewell respectfully and fairly, never trying to make him look bad.
