In the novel it shows how Atticus Finch is a dedicated single father. The mother of his two children Jem and Scout died, which left him to take care of the kids along with the maid Calpurnia. Atticus also takes care of Calpurnia because he’s really grateful that she takes care of Scout and Jem. Although he is a busy man with his job as a lawyer he dedicates time to his children and teaches them how to behave properly and how to respect others. On page 133, it states “Easy does it son”Atticus would say. ”She’s an old lady and she’s ill. You just hold your head high and be a gentleman. Whatever she says to you, it’s your job not to let her make you mad.” this shows how Atticus teaches Jem to be respectful to Mrs.Dubose since she is an older women. Atticus Finch shows us that he is very loyal. In the book on page 100, it says that Atticus took the case of Tom Robinson. Even though he knew that the case could cause a lot of trouble with the town. He knew and feared that the town would criticize himself and his family because of the case of Tom Robinson. Yet he was still willing to take the case and not betray the Tom by dropping the case. He wants to show equality because if he doesn’t take the case he feels as if he wouldn’t be able to tell his children to not do something because he didn’t take the case.
