Did you know that the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is based on a true story? This novel is a realistic fiction. It’s about a young girl named Scout Finch and her brother, Jem. These two face challenges and go through the troubles of growing up in a small southern town called Maycomb, Alabama. The story soon jumps over to this kid’s father, Atticus Finch, who is fighting for what's right. He is fighting for Tom Robinson in a court case. He faces challenges in this process, but refuses to give up on what is the right thing to do. Three characters that were heroes in To Kill a Mockingbird and made a difference were Atticus Finch, Boo Radley, and Jem Finch. This makes Boo Radley a hero because he went outside and out of his way to make sure the young girl didn’t freeze to death. Another way that Boo shows heroism is when he knocked Bob Ewell off of Scout when he was trying to strangle her to death. “ Mr Ewell was tryin’ to squeeze me to death, I reckon.then somebody yanked Mr. Ewell down.” (Lee 362). Scout is being questioned about the attack when she goes on and explains that someone had yanked Bob down. She tells everyone that he can introduce himself and points to Boo Radley, who stood in the dark corner of the room. Boo Radley is a perfect example of a hero because he shows up when people need him, or when he thinks someone is in danger and then doesn’t speak to anyone. The last hero in this novel is Jem Finch. Jem was a hero when the kids went to Boo Radley's house and Jem let everyone else escape before himself. “Jem held the bottom wire; I rolled through.” (Lee 71). Jem had let the other kids run first so they didn’t get caught or even worse shot. This shows that he is a brave young man and overall a hero for protecting others before
