This activity would help understand the cross point between gender, sex, age, class, etc. and show how people with similar identities can experience different concentrations of oppression and still empathize with each other. The activity will begin by having signs and each sign would have a different identity written on it. These signs would be hung around the room. I will then ask the students a series of questions where they will have to assess their identity and choose a sign that they feel best describes them. They are only allowed to choose one identity per question. After the activity is over the class will sit down where we will have a discussion about the activity. I will begin with “What did you think about the activity?” and go on to “Was anyone frustrated with having to choose one Identity?”. We will then discuss the importance of accepting the different aspects of one’s identity and intersectionality and how that helps toward solving the problems with oppression. I will then stress the importance by using this quote and following it with a discussion, “I find I am constantly being encouraged to pluck out some one aspect of myself and present this as the meaningful whole, eclipsing or denying the other parts of
