When Kiyoshi Miyamoto was born in Tokyo during 1933, his life was peaceful, he had two parents who had a decent amount of money and lots of love. Soon that all changed. In 1940, when Kiyoshi was seven, his father was enlisted in the Japanese army. Kiyoshi and his mother learned a year later, he had been killed in Burma. They had to move to Hiroshima, where his aunt had a place in the center of the city. All because Kiyoshi’s mother just couldn’t afford to live in Tokyo anymore. It’s now 1945, and Kiyoshi’s family lives in the heart of Hiroshima.
Getting up on Monday was tough, even more so when you mother is screaming in your face.

Kiyoshi tried to tell her, but she didn’t listen,
“I don’t care about your excuses Kiyoshi. I pay so much money for you to even go to school, for you to just blow it all off.”
Kiyoshi was fed up with being yelled at, “Fine! Don’t believe me then. I don’t need you, I don’t need anyone.”, his mother tried to stop him, but he didn’t care. Kiyoshi was on his own.
Two hours later, Kiyoshi was heading out of Hiroshima. He felt anxious, the thoughts in his head raced. Where am I going?, Should have I left?, Should I go back? These thoughts were interrupted by a white flash, followed by the sound of an explosion. Kiyoshi felt the blazing heat pierce through his body, suddenly his clothes caught on fire. He escaped the flames by going into an abandoned truck by the side of the road. He climbed underneath the steering wheel and prayed he wouldn’t die.
