The main character of this play are Troy, Rose, Cory, Bono, Gabriel, and Lyons. The play is about how Troy the father of Cory and Lyons wanted to become a garbage truck driver. While this going on Cory get recruited by a college, but Troy tells the couch that Cory can no longer play. Troy get his job and learns how lonely he is. Troy also gets another women pregnant and she dies leaving Rose in charge of the baby. Troy eventually dies. Lyons is facing the challenges of a dream that is not working out. "I just stay with my music because that's the only way I can find to live in the world” (1,1) Lyons is saying he has found his calling and can’t imagine a life without music. Although he reached his dream, he still has yet to find out how to make a living out of it. The author is trying to tell us that we should never give up on our dreams no matter how difficult it may be. In addition to this the author is showing that even if we accomplish our goals that it may not work out in the end, but you still were able to face the challenges and you completed the goal in the end. In addition to Lyons, Troy has also had a plan that had a negative outcome. In a conversation about work with Bono Troy said “ It ain’t the same, Bono. It ain’t like working the back of the truck. Ain’t got nobody to talk to… feel like you working by yourself.” (2,2). Troy's goal hope was to become a truck driver instead of working in the back. The eventually became a driver and ended up hating the job because he was lonely. The author is is once again showing us that are expectations can be different from the reality. We tend to get our hopes up as did Troy and in the end it does not meet our expectations.
