The Aussie Optimism Program is a mental health program which involves paying for training, to deliver a program focused on primary school students from the ages of six to eleven which are managed by primary teachers and staff, and or allied health professionals, this program has been made available nationally within classroom environments. The aim of the program is to aid in the prevention of depression, anxiety in children who have emotional and behavioral problems and any that are at risk, as well as provide techniques and the ability to manage with life stressors that can include but not limited to, issues with peer pressure, life changes that can occur during adolescence and transition from primary to secondary school education.
For this program to attain this intended aim the program has been put into four components designed to focus on the changing cognitive and social-emotional levels and development of primary school students. The four programs are aimed at specific years of development and stages within primary school, the first is Feelings and Friends for students in year 1 and 2, Feelings and Friends for students in year 3, Positive Thinking Skills for year 4 students and Social Life Skills for students in year 5 and 6, there is also a family-based section that is

The session is usually managed within a classroom environment and facilitated by a Teacher/Staff or Health Professional who has undergone the program training. The training consists of teaching the trainee the skills and knowledge to implement the program in the class environment and payment for this training includes a accompanying Teacher Resource, booklet and student booklet. There is also a focus on parental involvement during the program where information sheets are provided, and the facilitator can inform the parents of when a student module has been successfully
