I believe that the Australian government should legalise euthanasia programs for humans who wish to avoid a painful death.
Why do you hold this opinion? What are your main reasons for thinking this way?
The Oxford Dictionary defines euthanasia as “the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma.”
I have two main reasons for my opinion. Firstly, euthanasia programs will help patients alleviate their pain and suffering. Secondly, euthanasia programs can reduce emotional and physical burdens, and drawbacks imposed on family members, relatives, and friends.

All humans have a right to control their own body and life. Humans also have the explicit right to choose their own fate. In order for a patient to undergo euthanasia, the patient must ensure that certain objective safeguard conditions are met prior to allowing themselves from choosing when and how they want to die, and that they have a right to die with dignity. Some safeguard conditions that must be met by the patient include: being terminally ill or incurable, being an adult, being in severe pain, being mentally competent, and two physicians must be satisfied that the above conditions are present.
Furthermore, it is a crime to assist in euthanasia in Australia. Despite this, numerous attempts to legalise euthanasia and assisted suicide have mostly failed in Tasmania and South Australia.
