Unit 5 Lesson 10
Think of Others First
Should we be more concerned about others opposed to ourselves? I think it depends on the situation. For instance, in Jonas Salks situation I would say yes, think about others before your self because it was better to try to cure the Polio instead of letting it be and risking more people getting it. Jonas took a sacrifice in that situation and I would do the same. For example if there was a fire at a local store in my neighborhood I would run out of the store immediately to prevent my self from burning. Those are two different situations to choose from, but for the most part we should think about others before ourselves. Just like it is better to give than to receive, they’re both kind of “sketchy” on a person my age’s mind, because most people my age would rather receive than to give and probably think about them selves before anyone else. When it comes to doing the right thing I would take responsibility and think of others first, because if it was me on my death bed with Polio I would want somebody to help me. Someone who is selfless and is willing to risk their life for mine, rather than someone who is selfish and would let me suffer and risk more people getting this virus.
In the King James Version bible (KJV) as well as many other bibles, in the book of Philippians chapter 2 verse 4 it states: “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” – Philippians 2:4 I think that is similar to thinking of others before your selves. Then again, I think we should care for ourselves because we should love ourselves more than anyone else. We should also love everyone as if they were are own family, so with that being said I think we should
