Limitations of the BPS model
As it is suggested, the BPS model is a clear improvement in the area of the patient/ client relationship and has brought about a clear paradigm shift in the field of medicine and mental health. Despite this shift there is many areas that remain unexplored when working with the BPS model and its interactions. As Suls et al.,(2004) explain through their research of psychology journals that examined the assessment of indicators in multiple systems (biological, psychological, social) and uncovered that not all systems when being assessed were equally captured in the assessments completed by …show more content…
As Alvarez et al., (2012) points out, there are limited number of instruments in the field currently that implement the BPS model adequately. (Álvarez et al., 2012). A great disparity by clinicians at present time when using the BPS model comes from the lack of health psychologists to recognize important constructs of society which can affect the use and results of the BPS model such as culture and ethnicity. Suls et al., (2004) even goes as far to warn that practioners would do well not to measure for these constructs when recognizing stressors in these communities as a "one size fits all" approach would provide misleading information and results. (Suls & Rothman, 2004) Suls et al., (2004) also cautions health psychologists at their lack of ground level work and suggests that there be more involvement in communities and pairing with other professionals (clergy, social worker, social anthropologists) to better grasp the application of the BPS model. (Suls & Rothman, 2004)Finally, all research groups express one similar conclusion regarding
