Who knew the anger one could hide behind baby blue eyes. That sweet and gentle color was a wonderful mask. He who peered into them would never have guessed the thoughts they trapped behind them. The angry, angry thoughts that clawed and screamed to escape.
“Get your lazy ass out of bed and change your sisters’ diaper!” Despite the time of day, his state of intoxication would have surprised no one. Baby Blue sighed and crawled from beneath the thin blankets. He ran his hand through his sandy colored hair and got out of bed, careful not to hit his head on the top bunk. Dog groaned in protest, enjoying the body warmth shared by Baby Blue. The thin blankets didn’t do much to keep out the chill on nights like the last.

With Drunk likely passed out in his own piss and Mother absent with her bong. Ebony grabbed her keys and made her way to the door, holding it open for Baby Blue. The car was idling in the driveway, ready for a quick getaway if they needed.
Drunk stirred in the backroom and Ebonys heart froze.
“Go!” She and Baby Blue made a sprint for the car, Drunk heard the commotion and stumbled down the hall, a holler in his throat the whole way.
They made it to the car, it’s not hard to outrun a drunk. Baby blue sat in the passenger seat as Ebony eyes backed out of the driveway and drove away from the ramshackle building that barely passed as a sorry excuse for a house.
Barely a mile away, Ebony eyes pulled over as the tears burned to much to drive. Baby Blue worked quickly, the anger in that building melting off. Working to comfort Ebony was something Baby Blue had expected to do after leaving that hell hole. They hugged and Baby Blue wiped away the warm, salty beads falling from Ebony’s eyes.
“Shhh. Shh.” Baby Blues voice was soft and cooing, soft hands stroking Ebony’s hair.
“I wish we could take them with us, I hate leaving them there all alone. “
“I know, trust me I know. They’ll be okay, I promise you.
