Bacon’s Rebellion started because Jamestown, Virginia was getting raided and looted by many different Native American tribes, including the Doeg and Susquehanaugs. The Governor at the time, Sir William Berkeley, called an investigation into why they were getting attacked. Berkeley begged for restraint from the colonists in the town, one being his cousin Nathaniel Bacon, who ignored his pleas. Berkeley's policy was to preserve the friendship and loyalty of certain Native Americans while assuring the settlers that they were not hostile towards the Native Americans or each other. Bacon disregarded the Governor's orders of not being hostile, by seizing some Appomattox Native Americans for stealing corn, even though this was just an accusation.
