Reason for Referral
The client was referred to the Baldwin Wallace Speech Clinic for an evaluation by his mother.The clients’ mother has concerns regarding his working memory disorder as well as his expressive and receptive language.
Case History
Nolen is a 6-year; 11 month male and has been receiving school based speech therapy since February 2016. The Berea City School District created a new IEP on 1/25/ 2017 to adjust his goals based on concerns about Nolen’s written expression and comprehension. The IEP team wrote a new goal that is intended to work on Nolen’s difficulty with answering questions about a reading passage. Nolen scored a total sore of 16 on the CELF-5 which puts him above the normal range for his age. On the GFTA-3, Nolen obtained a standard score of 99 on the GFTA-3 and a percentile rank of 47. The results of the GFTA-3 reflects that Nolen’s articulation skills fall in the average range in comparison to his same aged peers.
Standardized Assessment Measures
The client participated in the Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals Test-5th edition (CELF-5 Test). This standardized assessment evaluates language skills by assessing the basics of expressive and receptive language. The CELF-5 consists of nine subtests. These subtests include word structure, sentence comprehension, word classes, formulated sentences, recalling sentences, following directions, understanding spoken paragraphs, linguistic concepts, and a pragmatics subtest.
