Barack Obama is an important figure in American History because he was the 44th president of the United States. He is the first African-American to have served as president, as well as the first born outside the United States. “ If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress.” This was one of Barack Obama’s famous quotes stating that if we don't give up our future country would succeed. Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr. had their first born, Barack Obama, on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Obama went to Occidental College in Los Angeles, then transferred to Columbia University in New York. He graduated in 1983 with a degree in political science. While living with his grandparents he also enrolled in the Punahou Academy. As one of the only three black students in Punahou Academy, he became conscious of racism and what it meant to be African American. The school education where Barack Obama really liked and learned a lot was at “ Altgeld Gardens.” It all started at that school that he officially wanted a political career. Obama continued with his plans and also new ones he had in store. One of the greatest needs he saw the U.S. needed was to make healthcare more affordable. Obama created “ ObamaCare” to help provide people with health care. Another thing he did during his presidency was to allow immigrants to stay and work in the United States only if they did not have a bad record. Obama also created a policy that allowed all gays to be able serve in the armed forces. Barack Obama debated with congress to give equal rights to people and be able to make U.S. greater. In his eight years of presidency, Obama was here for the people and cared about what was best for the greater good, no matter what race people
