Born in Seville Spain, Bartolomé de Las Casas was a Spanish advocate of Native Americans, historian, and a Roman Catholic priest. In tender age, he studied and practiced law for a short while. Like any other ambitious young person of his time, he traveled a world in search of opportunities during which he served as a soldier and a public official in the West Indies where his efforts were rewarded with a royalty landed estate with full custody over the natives.
Around 1512, Las Casas was ordained as a Catholic priest upon which he gave up his Encomienda in response to his growing concern with regards to the harsh treatment of the Indians in Spanish America. Even though Pope under the Roman empire had given Spain dominance over the New World,
