Shape is used to depict the figures in the work. When one examines the entire work, it becomes clear that the creator primarily relies on the usage of shapes for their elements. This is clear due to the way that their seems to not be much depth, color, or any other elements present in this work. Shapes depict whether the figure is a horseman, or simply a sword. In the Battle of Hastings perspective is used to tell two different stories. When viewing this work in one way, one can see the men and horses who are still alive fighting the battle. However, when one changes their way of viewing, it can be seen as the many men and horses who are lying dead in the background. This becomes important due to the way it depicts that depending on how you view this, it can be a dreary time or a victorious event. Color is lightly used in the French originating artwork. It is used in a manner that depicts the appearance of all the shapes. The coloring of the horses shows a variety in place of it all becoming a uniformed depiction. These include the colorings used, medium used, texture, shape, as well as their means for creation. The coloring between the two is a very vast difference. In David with the Head of Goliath, the artist’s usage of color is very complex. Vaccaro uses very rich colors in his work that creates a very pleasing sight for the viewer. In the work, color is used to explain many details within the painting such as the darkness of the time, the holy likliness of David, and the blood pouring from Goliath’s head. This usage of color is largely different from the usage of color in Battle of Hastings. In the Battle of Hastings, color is very basically used in ways that depict very simple pieces of the painting such as the coloring of the silver/ grey armour or the variety of colors of the horses. The hues of color in this work do not begin to compare to the richness within the color in David with the Head of Goliath. This could be due to the difference in tastes of the artists or more likely due to the difference in medium between the two works. The difference in mediums most likely attribute to the difference in colors because using embroidered wool on linen has much more limited colors to choose from compared to oil paint that an artist can mix to create whatever color they may desire to put onto a
