In the beginning of the novel, all of the boys were confident but still resistant that they could be able to beat the beast and kill it when they had found it. Later on, Jack says, ¨The thing is fear can’t hurt you anymore than a dream. There aren’t any beasts to be afraid of on this island.” Jack and his hunters were more confident to know that their might be no beast on the island after all. Although they were confident with their conclusion of the beast the littluns were especially still conscious about it. Later on, Simon was foreshadowing what was going to happen wich changed the boys on the island. Afterward, Simon says, ¨Unless we get frightened by people¨. Later in chapter 8, Jack says, ¨ The beast is hunter.¨ Basically, what he was trying to do was get the boys main focus on killing and hunting the pig and beast rather than starting a fire. Jack then, later on, has a song which they usually sing when they hunt; ¨ Kill the pig, cut her throat … drink her blood.¨ A few chapters before that Ralph says, ¨What are we? Humans? Or animals? Or savages” What’s grownups going to think? Going off-hunting pigs-letting fires out and now !.¨ Ralph was obviously not okay with Jackś behavior and how he wasn't acting right.
