This is very key in her discussions about the body because she spends a significant amount of time discussing women. These writings are found in A Second Sex. She states “Women generally are not as open with their bodies as are men in their gate and stride” (Young 32). She is stating that a man usually takes up more space compared to a woman. This is defiantly true in today’s modern society. When men walk they usually walk with their legs further apart. Because of this, a man’s feet will also be naturally further apart when they walk. On the other hand, a woman is taught from a young age how to walk “lady like”. Walking “lady like” basically means that a woman will naturally walk with their legs and feet closer together.
