Specific Purpose: My audience will be able to explain how bees affect our economy, how they affect our food supply, and how planting more plants can repopulate bees.
Thesis Statement: Bee populations have decreased throughout the years mainly due to the lack of food available for them, which threatens the livelihood of humans since our economies and food production rely so heavily on bees.
I. Introduction
A. Gain attention/motivate audience to listen: According to Marla Spivak, an entomologist, who was featured on Ted Talk, there are only 2 million bee colonies left in the U.S (2013).
1. This is a major threat to our food supply since bees pollinate 33% of our food (Spivak, 2013)
2. This decrease in bee populations also threatens the U.S economy since bees account for $15 billion of the U.S annual profit due to the export of fruits, nuts, and vegetables, according to the White House’s press secretary who released a briefing statement in 2014 (Fact Sheet).

Thesis: Although scientists have been trying to increase bee populations for decades each year the number of bee colonies in the U.S decreases by 30%, according to Spivak, which is why the public needs to get involved too (2013).
C. Preview: My name is Clayton Williams and today I will talk to you about how bees going extinct can threaten our livelihoods and one of the many solutions that can help save bee populations.
Transition to the body of the speech: First let’s discuss one of the reasons bee populations are decreasing and how it has affected food production today.
