Completing work on-time is very important in the engineering profession. In order to complete the work on time, it is important to stay on top of things and not procrastinate. Procrastination is something I have struggled with my entire academic career. I plan on utilizing the three steps of Behavior Modification to fix this problem. For as long as I have been a student, I have procrastinated. It is too easy to push work off until the last minute and forget about it. While at the time this may seem like a good idea, it often times leads to a lot of extra stress right before the assignment is due, as well as the production of low-quality work. Even though it was manageable to procrastinate in high school, that is not the same for college. The larger workload of college makes it very important to stay on top of everything. For this reason, I am determined to fix this problem. The first step in the behavior modification process is knowledge. I have already started this step because I know what I want to do; I want to stop procrastinating. I also have knowledge on how to fix it. Some potential solutions to this problem include making a calendar of all the tasks I need to complete and utilizing the priority matrix. This means I must commit to cutting out my procrastination problem. This step may be more challenging than the first step, because gaining knowledge of a problem is much easier than committing to a solution. While committing will be more difficult than learning about procrastination, I am still determined to fix the problem. This determination will be very useful in committing to a solution.
