In the beginning of the book Hannah thoroughly complains about the passover. However she is very interested with grandpa will and the numbers. So interested that she tries to copy him with the numbers but then wonders why he gets mad when she does those kind of things. This means she does care about what happened in the past. Hannah is young when she does this though which makes it not valid right? Wrong, she does this because she cares about her grandfather and wanted to pacify him and make him not feel left out. After she changed to chaya Hannah found out people were getting married. When the car pulled up to Chaya and her new family a man in a black outfit got out of the car. Turns out it is a nazi. Hannah insisted to turn the wagon around yet again proving she cares. However anyone in the right mind would have done the same. Taking a step back to being Hannah, before she opened the door she had some thoughts. Grandpa Will said open the door to Elijah. As she went to open the door the book says she felt dumb and did not believe Elijah would come through the door. She thought to herself, “Baby stories”. This means that Hannah does not believe in her religion and thinks it’s babyish. But is people being killed, discriminated ,and scared for years
