Washington was able to lead his officers and soldiers while also being vulnerable to them. He had military tactics that were never used before. In the Battle of Trenton, he attacked at night on Christmas Eve which was previously unheard of. He also was able to always survive, which was a win for the United States against Great Britain. George Washington was elected unanimously, as the first President of the United States and once again led America. Washington’s effective leadership throughout the Revolutionary Era and Early Republic is a large reason America was established as a country. Baron von Steuben also played a major role in being able to establish the United States. He was a German who offered to help Washington shape his army of average men into elite soldiers. Although Steuben did not speak English, with the help of an interpreter, he was able to help lead the continental army. He was highly educated in military tactics, and he wrote a military handbook. Steuben created an elite army at Valley Forge through effective leadership tactics. The effectiveness of Washington and von Steduben’s leadership is shown throughout the Revolution Era and the Early Republic by making it possible for America to become a
