The Berlin Airlift was an effort the U.S., lead by 33rd President Harry Truman, and its allies decided to make to supply their sectors of the city from the air. It had lasted for more than a year and carried more than 2.3 million tons of cargo into West Berlin. Berlin is the capital of Germany, as well as the largest city in the country. At the end of the WWII in 1945, U.S., British, and Soviet military forces split up and occupied parts of Germany.
