Bernie Webber and his extravagant achievements defied the odd of what many doubted could be done. A hero is someone who is admired and displays outstanding qualities. They are persistent on the task they are on, continuing on their belief to make the world a better place. A hero may even be willing to sacrifice their life, for the good of others. Their efforts are monumental, to an extent that is unbelievable. Bernie Webber portrays what it is to be a hero, demonstrating determination, courage and selflessness. The determination that Webber displays is unimaginable. His actions are immense, which only few would do. He does what he thinks is right, even in the extent of risking his life. Webber wanted to prove the doubtful wrong. Nothing was able to stop him from leaving port to save others. He tackled "60 foot waves, hurricane force winds and blizzard conditions" to save 33 sailors that survived the shipwreck. Despite warnings from his friends, family and more experienced coast guards, Webber still continued on his mission. The doubts were soon cleared as Webber and his crew were awarded the "Coast Guard’s coveted Gold Lifesaving Medal".
