First and foremost welcome to How to Ride a Bike 101; I will be your instructor. What you will need for this course is a beginners’ bicycle; by that I mean a bicycle that is not geared. Most importantly which includes the correct sized bike is you bring training wheels attached to your bicycle. You will also need to bring a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads to prevent injury. Your protective gear will need to be on before you start; now let’s get started. Step one: getting familiar with your bicycle; that means know where your breaks are. I don’t want you to run into a tree because you dint know how to stop. First, get on the bike and put your feet on the bikes peddles and rotate your feet backwards. This step is important; if done incorrectly you could end up taking an unexpected joy ride. If your brakes are on the handle bars, simply squeeze the lever with your hands to stop. Step three: riding your bike; first, put your feet on the bikes peddles and rotate them forward. When you start going, make sure to keep both hands on the handle bars; remember it’s not a unicycle. You will use the handle bars to guide the bicycle to where you want to go. To turn all you have to do is lean to which ever direction you are trying to turn to. Step four: different roads; different roads will require you to ride a different speed. For example, riding your bike downhill will require you slow down because of the increasing speed. Slowing down will keep you from going to fast and falling when going downhill. To go downhill just rotate your legs backwards to slow down. When going uphill you will have to do the opposite, instead of slowing down will have to peddle faster for your bike to complete the
