One of the largest and well-known counterpublics in our society today is the LGBTQ community. When asked if this counterpublic is a source of empowerment or isolation, I find that it is both. Those who identify with the LGBTQ community have gone through isolation. Even today most people are still not accepting to this way of life. However, it is also a group of empowerment. With the use of protests and media, they have collectively made a huge change and gained support throughout the world.
