I was conducting an interview with a 16 years old Asian boy. Derek is a junior in high school. He is the younger of two brothers. He said that he has a big family with both immediate and extended family. They always do things together. His grandmother is watching both of them when his parents at work. Derek described that he only remembers of happy memories when he was young. The most memorable childhood memories are the time when his older brother gave him a piggyback ride. He would get on his brother’s back and ride back and forth from their room to their parents’ room. He loved it when his brother played with him. He remembers going to preschool and liking it. He remembers playing with his cousins and going places. During his childhood, his family members provided a strong secure base for him to and learn and explore the world around him. Role Confusion is during adolescent years. Adolescent is a transitional period of physical and mental development takes place from a child to adult. It is a bridge between childhood to adulthood. This transition involves biological changes such as puberty, social and psychological. During this period, children explore their independence, self-control, willpower, and develop a sense of self. They start to see themselves in relation to others and to their world. At this young age, adolescents tend to create relationships with others in private and more intimate.
