The essay I was most drawn towards was “Understanding the Birth Order Relationship.” Within this essay, the author, Sarah Toler, argues that birth order plays an important role in our lives since the day we are born. She divides the essay into five essential parts. The classifications are as follows: the meaning of birth order, the only child, the first-born child, the middle child, and the youngest child. Each category focuses on one of the genders; for example, in the “first-born child” category, she mentions the personality traits of a male child, whereas in the “middle child” category, she mentions the personality traits of a female child. Another structural method she chose was to include a direct address to the reader in the first paragraph.
