How could a few fish majorly disrupt the flow and peace of a pond ecosystem? It is easy for an ecosystem to be affected by just one organism. For instance the Zebra Mussel had a drastic affect on North American water ecosystems. The mussels removed the food sources for zooplankton and many small fish, altering the food web. Sunlight was then allowed to penetrate the water deeper causing increased vegetation growth that affected oxygen levels resulting in the death of many fish. The Black Carp has been proven to cause ecosystem disruptions similar to the Zebra Mussel. Due to the negative effects that the Black Carp has on natural pond ecosystems, the sale of the fish should be banned.
