I want to embrace every choice that comes my way as an exciting change to try and learn something new, not something to fear. This scholarship is the gateway to me being able to finish my degree strong, and move on to a bigger and brighter future. I am completely independent from my family, financially and otherwise after being ostracized for leaving their religion several years ago. One of the prompts was to tell how t-shirts have played a role in my life, and the first thing that comes to mind is the many I have worn through the years that tell a story about how I became the person I am today. The bright blue t-shirt from one of my first real jobs as a cashier at a local greasy burger joint had stains that no combination of chemicals could get out. The tie dye shirts that my roommates and I made together during our first week of college will forever hang in my closet. The hideous neon yellow “VOLUNTEER” shirt I wore for weeks when helping out at a local shelter, just to realize they had cuter black ones the whole time that I could’ve had.
