One example of this was when Antonio recieves his first communion, and thinking that God would speak to him, but he didn’t hear anything from God, afterwards he starts to doubt Catholicism and believes in the Golden Carp, a pagan God. This means that because he didn’t hear from his god, he was willing to believe in another god that can help him with his religious purification. This also matters because if Antonio wasn’t willing to accept change he would’ve been questioning his god for years to come. Another example of this is when Antonio starts making his own independent decisions, like going to with Ultima to heal his uncle from a curse, even when told by others not to go, he felt that it was the best decision. This means that he grew and changed into an independent man, making his own decisions and doing what he feels is best for everyone. This is important because if he didn’t make the choice to go with Ultima, his uncle might’ve died from the curse put upon him.
