Bletchley Park was a code breaking facility located in England. Those who worked there put in many hours to decode enemy messages that would help Germany win the war. Surprisingly enough, 70% of those who worked at the Bletchley were women. The women of Bletchley Park had a huge role in the code-breaking operations of World War II, some of the most important women included Mavis Batey, Margaret Rock, Joan Murray, and many other women. Mavis Batey was born in Dulwich, south London, England, May 5, 1921. Her birth name was Mavis Lillian Lever. She was a British student studying German Literature, when she was recruited for the code-breaking project and also known as one of the leading female code-breakers at Bletchley Park during World War II. …show more content…
She met Keith Batey (a mathematician) at Bletchley Park. She got married in 1942 with Keith Batey but unfortunately her husband died in 2010; they had two daughters and a son named Elizabeth, Deborah and Christopher. Their children had no clue about their parent’s wartime until many years later. She was also regarded as England national heroine and during her work with other code breakers like Alfred Dillwyn she learned to decode the encrypted German code or communications. She died on November 12, 2013, but before her death she was rewarded with Veitch Memorial Medal of the Royal Horticultural Society and was also appointed as MBE for her services to the preservation and conservation of historic
