Reading Shakespeare’s work makes one wonder, is this really what life is like? The answer is yes; themes of Shakespeare’s plays can be applied to any society in human history. A common human experience can be seen in his writing, and for this reason his plays are considered timeless. In each of Shakespeare’s works the reader can relate it to their own life or to the society they live in. For example, The Tragedy of Macbeth relates to our current society, demonstrated by the theme of blind ambition. In today’s world, like The Tragedy of Macbeth, men who were thought of as role models mistakenly allowed their past secrets to come to light, and ended up being hated by those who once admired them.

If these men are not stopped, they continue to commit evil acts of drugging, assaulting, and even manipulating women in order to sleep with them. Even men who are esteemed in our society, like Macbeth was in his, are blinded and will do anything to achieve their goal. One example of this in our society is former NFL star Darren Sharper who was arrested and accused of raping women in Louisiana, Nevada, Arizona, and California. Darren Sharper was a professional NFL player who was well-known and admired, and set records for his teams. A few years after his retirement from the game, Sharper’s true colors were shown when sexual assault charges sprung up against him. Women across the states claimed that Sharper, with the use of force and drugs, raped them, and it is believed that there were nine or more victims. Now, Sharper, after admitting to his actions, is looking at 15 to 20 years in prison and he is being registered as a sex offender. Going back to the words of Cesar Chavez, in the case of Darren Sharper, only one person was satisfied while the victims were scarred for life. Each woman was used against her will and gained nothing from the horrible experience. Darren Sharper’s goal, in the end, left no one happy and triggered the downfall of his career after
