In the “Cycle of Socialization” Bobbie Harro explains that we are all born with an identity but it is tampered with by our parents and or guardians. Once we become old enough to understand their concepts they begin to instill those ways of thinking into our heads. We are taught to live similar lifestyles as our previous generations has. For example, roles to play in society, expectations for the future, ideas of other cultures, and how we should make decisions. Harro illustrates that “we are too dependent on our parents and those raising us, and we haven’t yet developed the ability to think for ourselves” (Harro 17).
