This is the story of a pet who was very dedicated to his family. Bobbie was a Scotch collie and shepherd mix who belonged to Frank and Elizabeth Brazier and their two children. They had gotten him when he was only six weeks old. Frank and Elizabeth also had a fox-terrier by the name of Toodles. When Bobbie was only a year old, Toodles passed away from a stroke. Soon after the family bought the Reo Café in Silverton, Oregon. Realizing that this was no place for a dog who loved to run in the country, they sold him to a friend who would be living on the farm they were leaving. Not long after, Bobbie found them and would visit every weekend and head back home on Monday.
Frank and Elizabeth decided to take a trip back and repurchase their Bobbie, paying three times the amount they had sold him for.
In the summer of 1923 the family and Bobbie set out for a trip to Indiana from Silverton. Almost finished with their journey they stopped to rest, leaving Elizabeth at home Frank and Bobbie went out. While Frank was pumping gas into the car Bobbie was jumped by local mongrels and chased off by the three dogs. At the time Frank did not think anything of it and thought Bobbie would be fine and waiting back where they were staying. Sadly enough, Bobbie was not there. The Oregon Humane Society gave him a silver medal, engraved with the record of his long-distance journey. The presentation was made at Eugene Field School, by Mr. Robert Goetz, superintendent of schools, and a large crowd witnessed the ceremony. (Brazier) Bobbie was also presented with a silver-plated collar that was inscribed with the miles of his journey. He was also in newspaper columns many times and his picture appeared so many times that the family had to obtain a special scrapbook for all of the memories.
