People grow accustomed to schedules and routines, which gives them a feeling of comfort. It may not be the most exciting prospect, but there is a certain sense of being at ease that comes with being able to go into work every day and knowing exactly what to expect.
Here are a few key benefits of change:
Promote the development of new skills - If people do the same thing day in and day out, they will never learn to develop new skills. At the end of the day, nurturing new skills and specialties helps everyone at the hospital become well-rounded, talented individuals that can only have a positive effect on our patients.
Bolster innovation - Hospitals should ideally move and adapt fluidly. Rigid work environments, however, may hinder or impede new ideas from cropping up. Without change, hospitals may find themselves failing patients.
Change allows people to rise - Most valuable people at any organisation are those who can continually develop new approaches and strategies to the various challenges they face. The NHS as a whole is currently facing the biggest challenge yet. Too many patients and not enough beds is our biggest challenge yet and one that crops up every winter.

Disruptive Work Environment - Another negative effect to resistance among staff to changes may be a more disruptive work environment. Employees resisting changes may cause commotions with outbursts regarding the changes or a combative attitude with management staff. They may spread that same negativity among other staff members, encouraging them to act in a similar manner, which can, in turn, end up causing greater unrest.
Additional Considerations - There are numerous ways that you can mitigate the negative effects of resistance to change among your staff. From holding all-staff discussions in which everyone can air their grievances regarding the changes to providing extra training and resources to help staff adapt, taking the steps to make employees feel more comfortable with changes may go a long way toward creating more beneficial effects from the change than negative
