After learning about the countless tragedies affecting these people, as shown through the book, my views on refugees changed. Instead of being impartial and unaware towards the crisis, I became familiar and actively tried to bring awareness. The first person point of view used in the book allowed for a deeper emotional connection, while simultaneously revealing the horrific conditions in which the characters live in. I began to realise how much my perspective had changed when I was asked to do a speech on refugees. While I was researching I found a speech that I had done a few years prior on the same topic. After reading it I was surprised as I realised how uneducated and naive I was about the plight of refugees. Before, I was worried about how the refugees would make friends, but now I realise their troubles are so much more than that. After reading the speech, I then registered how my perspective had changed since reading this book.
